Why Climate Change is a key issue in our world?

Climate change is one of the biggest threats to our sector today. A four-degree warmer world would become almost impossible to insure. Global warming could have a considerable impact on insurers’ mortality and morbidity experience and health care providers’ rates of utilization.

As one of the world’s leading insurers and investors, Krungthai-AXA Life (KTAXA) is committed to limiting global warming and ensuring a fair transition to a low-carbon future. In line with the Paris Climate Agreement, AXA has set itself the goal of limiting the “global warming potential” of its investments to less than 1.5°C by 2050.

The Group has also planned its total exit from the coal industry by 2030 (EU/OECD) and 2040 (rest of the world) and is on target to increase its Green Investments to €25bn by 2023.

In Glasgow last year, The COP26 summit brought parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Many countries made further commitments to support a zero-carbon target, including moving away from coal as an energy source and ending deforestation by 2030.

At a local level in Thailand, KTAXA has invested 6 billion Thai Baht in green investments in 2021 and achieved a 0% coal investment. The company also initiated a Tree Planting Campaign in 2021 that has planted over 90,000 trees have been planted and aims to plant 110,000 by 2022.

Our commitment to The Paris Agreement and COP26 allows to play an important role in reducing the risk that climate change poses to the health of communities in Thailand and the industry, and to deliver on our purpose – act for human progress by protecting what matters.
