วันนี้เราเลยจะพาไปรู้จักกับ ระยะเวลารอคอยประกันสุขภาพ กันให้ลึกซึ้งยิ่งขึ้น ว่าทำไมถึงต้องมีระยะเวลารอคอย หลังทำประกันแล้วไม่สามารถใช้บริการได้ทันทีเหรอ ? และเมื่อไหร่เราถึงจะสามารถเคลมค่าใช้จ่ายจากการเข้ารับการรักษาได้จริงๆ เพื่อให้ทุกคนได้เข้าใจและเตรียมตัวได้ดียิ่งขึ้นเมื่อเลือกทำประกันสุขภาพ

ระยะเวลารอคอย ของแบบประกันสุขภาพ (Waiting Period) คืออะไร?

              ระยะเวลารอคอย คือช่วงเวลาที่ผู้ทำประกันต้องรอก่อนที่จะสามารถเคลมประกันได้หลังจากที่กรมธรรม์เริ่มมีผลบังคับใช้สำหรับการรักษาพยาบาลโรคบางโรค เนื่องจากโรคบางอย่างมีเวลาของการเจ็บป่วย หรือเวลาในการแสดงอาการเจ็บป่วยออกมาในภายหลังได้ ซึ่งถึงทราบว่าเป็นโรคนั้น ๆ แล้ว ก็ไม่จำเป็นต้องรับการรักษาทันทีทันใด ดังนั้นเพื่อให้การพิจารณาความคุ้มครองผลประโยชน์ความคุ้มครองของผู้เอาประกันภัยทุกราย เป็นไปด้วยความถูกต้องเป็นธรรม ในการบริหารความเสี่ยงภัยระหว่างผลประโยชน์ตามกรมธรรม์และบริษัทประกันภัย จึงข้อกำหนดสำคัญที่ต้องมีเงื่อนไขระยะเวลารอคอย            แต่สำหรับการรักษาอุบัติเหตุนั้น จะไม่มีระยะเวลารอคอย ผู้เอาประกันสามารถยื่นเคลมได้ทันทีเมื่อประกันมีผลบังคับใช้ และเป็นไปตามเงื่อนไขของบริษัทประกัน เนื่องจากไม่อาจทราบได้ว่าอุบัติเหตุจะเกิดขึ้นเมื่อไหร่นั่นเอง

              ระยะเวลารอคอย จะเริ่มนับจากวันที่กรมธรรม์ประกันมีผลบังคับใช้เป็นครั้งแรก สำหรับปีกรมธรรม์ที่สองเป็นต้นไปจะไม่มีระยะเวลารอคอยของสุขภาพอีกต่อไป เว้นแต่ในกรณีที่กรมธรรม์ขาดผลบังคับและมีการต่ออายุสัญญา ระยะเวลารอคอยนี้จะถูกเริ่มนับใหม่อีกครั้งนับจากวันต่ออายุสัญญาครั้งสุดท้าย ดังนั้นการรักษาสถานะกรมธรรม์ไม่ให้ขาดผลบังคับจึงมีความสำคัญและรักษาสิทธิประโยชน์ของผู้เอาประกันเป็นอย่างมาก

โดยทั่วไปแล้วระยะเวลารอคอยสามารถแบ่งได้หลักๆ 2 ประเภท ดังนี้

·      ระยะเวลารอคอย 30 วัน

สำหรับกรณีความเจ็บป่วยโรคทั่วไป และไม่ใช่ภาวะที่เป็นมาก่อนการทำประกัน (แต่เงื่อนไขข้อนี้ สำหรับลูกค้าของบริษัทกรุงไทย-แอกซ่า ประกันชีวิต จำกัด (มหาชน) จะไม่นำมาใช้ในกรณีที่เป็นการบาดเจ็บ หรือเจ็บป่วยที่ต้องรักษาด้วยการผ่าตัดฉุกเฉิน ที่ไม่ได้เกิดจากสภาพที่เป็นมาก่อนเอาประกัน เช่น ผ่าตัดฉุกเฉิน เนื่องจากไส้ติ่งอักเสบ

·      ระยะเวลารอคอย 120 วัน

สำหรับการป่วยจากโรคเฉพาะที่ระบุไว้ดังต่อไปนี้ จะมีระยะเวลารอคอย 120 วัน 

·      เนื้องอก, ถุงน้ำ หรือมะเร็งทุกชนิด 

·      ริดสีดวงทวาร 

·      ไส้เลื่อนทุกชนิด 

·      ต้อเนื้อหรือต้อกระจก 

·      การตัดทอนซิลหรืออดีนอยด์ 

·      นิ่วทุกชนิด 

·      เส้นเลือดขอดที่ขา 

·      เยื่อบุโพรงมดลูกเจริญผิดที่

สภาพที่เป็นมาก่อนการเอาประกันภัย Pre-existing Condition ในสัญญาเพิ่มเติมด้านสุขภาพคืออะไร?

Pre-existing Condition (สภาพที่เป็นมาก่อนการเอาประกัน) หมายถึง สภาพลักษณะอาการโรคที่เกิดขึ้นกับผู้เอาประกัน โรคที่เกิดขึ้นกับผู้เอาประกัน หรือความผิดปกติที่ผู้เอาประกันรับทราบได้ด้วยตนเองอยู่ก่อนและไม่ได้แจ้งบริษัทประกัน เช่น คลำพบก้อน ซึ่งจะมีผลให้บริษัทไม่จ่ายผลประโยชน์ตามข้อตกลงในสัญญา สำหรับโรคเรื้อรัง การบาดเจ็บหรือการป่วย (รวมถึงภาวะแทรกซ้อน) หรือการบาดเจ็บ ที่ยังไม่ได้รักษาให้หายก่อนวันที่กรมธรรม์ประกันเริ่มมีผลบังคับเป็นครั้งแรก เว้นแต่ 

1.       ผู้เอาประกันภัยได้แถลงให้บริษัททราบ และบริษัทยินยอมรับความเสี่ยงภัยโดยไม่มีเงื่อนไขยกเว้น ความคุ้มครองดังกล่าว หรือ

2.       โรคเรื้อรัง การบาดเจ็บหรือการป่วย (รวมถึงภาวะแทรกซ้อน) นั้น ไม่ปรากฏอาการ ไม่ได้รับการตรวจรักษาหรือวินิจฉัยโดยแพทย์หรือไม่ได้พบหรือปรึกษาแพทย์ ในระยะเวลา 5 ปีก่อนวันที่กรมธรรม์ประกันภัยนี้ เริ่มมีผลบังคับเป็นครั้งแรก และ ในช่วงระยะเวลา 3 ปี ตั้งแต่วันที่กรมธรรม์ประกันภัยนี้เริ่มมีผลบังคับเป็นครั้งแรก

โรคที่มีอยู่ก่อนหน้าที่ประกันสุขภาพส่วนใหญ่กำหนดไว้ และอาจไม่คุ้มครองได้แก่

·      โรคที่เกิดจากอุบัติเหตุหรือความเจ็บป่วยเรื้อรังในอดีตที่ยังรักษาไม่หายขาด

·      โรค หรืออาการที่ไม่เคยได้รับการรักษาหรือได้รับคำปรึกษาทางการแพทย์ เช่น อาการปวด มีก้อนเนื้อมะเร็ง มีเลือดออก ฯลฯ

·      เป็นโรคหรืออยู่ในสภาพที่กำลังได้รับการรักษาอย่างต่อเนื่อง เช่น มีการรักษาด้วยยาตามสั่งแพทย์ หรือการบำบัดอย่างต่อเนื่อง

·      ความผิดปกติในร่างกายที่มีอยู่แล้ว แต่ยังไม่เคยตรวจเจอ เช่น คลำเนื้องอกที่กำลังโตในร่างกาย

การเข้าใจระยะเวลารอคอย และรักษาสถานะกรมธรรม์ไม่ให้ขาดผลบังคับ จึงเป็นสิ่งสำคัญในการเลือกประกันสุขภาพ เพราะเมื่อผ่านช่วงนี้ไป ผู้เอาประกันทุกคนจะสามารถใช้สิทธิผลประโยชน์ที่ระบุในกรมธรรม์ ทำให้มั่นใจได้ว่าเราจะได้รับการดูแลที่ดีที่สุดในทุกช่วงเวลาของชีวิต

Comparing Covid-19 Vaccines: Efficacy Rates and Side Effects

Over the past year, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused many of us to make certain lifestyle changes, both big and small. From working from home to avoiding communal areas, we have adapted our lives and refrained from social activities. This so-called ‘new normal’ seemingly took over our lives, at least until we finally started to see vaccines being developed by various companies and scientists that can curb infections, reduce the severity of the disease, and lower the risk of death.

Covid-19 vaccines are now being produced by various manufacturers around the world, with each company having their own production process. While each Covid-19 vaccine is unique, they are all made for the same purpose — to help build immunity and prevent the pandemic from spreading.

So far there are four types of Covid-19 vaccine:

Messenger RNA (mRNA) Vaccines Created from RNA genetic material, Covid-19 mRNA vaccines instruct our cells to produce a harmless protein that is unique to the virus. This triggers an immune response within the body, stimulating our immune systems to produce antibodies against the virus that can protect us from infection. Current mRNA vaccine options include Pfizer and Moderna.

Viral Vector Vaccines Viral vector vaccines use a genetically modified version of a different virus which has been injected with the Covid-19 virus’s genetic material. Once it enters the body, the vaccine mimics a natural infection, stimulating immunity and triggering the production of antibodies against Covid-19. As the body is being injected with a live virus, there are certain limitations for the immune-compromised when using these vaccines. Current companies producing viral vector vaccines include AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, and Sputnik V.

Inactivated Virus Vaccines Inactivated virus vaccines use actual Covid-19 virus that has been killed or de-activated. When injected into the body, this doesn’t cause the actual disease, but instead triggers the immune system to recognize the presence of a foreign substance. Our bodies then produce antibodies against the Covid-19 virus in much the same way as the old hepatitis A and polio vaccines used to work. As this approach utilizes technology that has already been proven to work in people, it is generally considered to be a safer option for vaccination recipients, especially those with impaired immunity. Companies currently producing inactivated virus vaccines include Sinovac and Sinopharm.

Protein Subunit Vaccines Widely known and practiced Protein Subunit Vaccines have been proven to work in the past, including making hepatitis B and influenza vaccines. They involve mixing viral protein with immune-suppressants, thereby activating the body to create antibodies that fight the virus.

Effectiveness of Different Covid-19 Vaccines

Pfizer: Approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), Pfizer is an mRNA vaccine that protects against the original Covid-19 strain (SARS-CoV-2). The vaccine has efficacy rates of 95% prevention against severe symptoms, and 100% prevention of death. However, there is not enough data yet to support whether or not it protects against further contagion by those vaccinated. The Pfizer vaccine prescribes two doses, three to four weeks apart. Infection is prevented from 12 days after the first shot.

Moderna: Approved by WHO, Moderna is an mRNA vaccine that protects against the original Covid-19 strain, the UK Covid-19 strain (B.1.1.7), as well as the South African Covid-19 strain (501Y.V2). The vaccine has efficacy rates of 92% protection against severe symptoms and 100% prevention of death. There is no definitive information regarding how it protects against further transmission. Moderna prescribes two doses of the vaccine four weeks apart. Infection is prevented from 14 days after the first shot.

AstraZeneca: A Viral vector vaccine, AstraZeneca is WHO-approved, and provides 63.09% protection against the original Covid-19 strain. There is still limited data as to whether the vaccine can prevent transmission. AstraZeneca requires two shots, administered eight to twelve weeks apart. (Those with severe immune imparity are not recommended to take this vaccine).

Johnson & Jonson: Approved by the WHO, Johnson & Johnson is a viral vector vaccine that can prevent Covid-19 infection with 66.9% efficacy with a single dose. Within 28 days after the vaccination severe symptoms are prevented 85.4% and death is prevented 100%.

Sinovac: This WHO-approved inactivated virus vaccine is 51% effective against Covid-19, with an efficacy rate of 100% against severe symptoms and death. There is currently no definitive information to support whether the vaccine is able to prevent further transmission. Sinovac prescribes two doses administered four weeks apart.

Sinopharm: A WHO-approved inactivated virus vaccine, Sinopharm has an efficacy rate of 79% protection against the original Covid-19 strain. There is still no clear evidence showing that the vaccine can prevent further transmission. Sinopharm prescribes two doses three to four weeks apart.

All vaccines come with similar initial symptoms ranging from swelling to redness or itching around the injection area, headache, fatigue, fever, muscle ache, and occasional nausea and vomiting. Some people may also experience a severe allergic reaction. Symptoms should be monitored carefully for 30 minutes after the injection.

Here is a summary of reports of severe allergic reactions for each vaccine:

Pfizer: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports an average of 11.1 severe allergic reaction cases per 1,000,000 doses.

Moderna: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports an average of 2.5 severe allergic reaction cases, per 1,000,000 doses.

WHO reports four cases of blood clots per 1,000,000 doses in the UK, and 10 cases of blood clots per 1,000,000 doses in the EU.

Johnson & Johnson: WHO reports an average of 3.5 cases of blood clots per 1,000,000 doses.

Sinovac: There have been reports that, in addition to initial side effects, those vaccinated with Sinovac have an increased likelihood of experiencing a loss of appetite, sore throat and runny nose as well as paralysis-like weakness in the limbs. More severe effects include narrowing of blood vessels in the brain. Reports show that there are on average 12 cases of severe allergic reactions per 1,000,000 doses.

Sinopharm: The WHO has not yet reported any serious allergic reactions to this vaccine. Despite suspicions that the vaccine can cause blood clots, there is no conclusive evidence pinpointing whether this is an actual result of vaccination or simply cases of co-occurrence. Only 0.5-1.5 such cases are found per 100,000 doses.

All the vaccines mentioned above are effective in preventing outbreak of Covid-19. While they may lead to certain side effects in some individuals, they are still able to greatly reduce the rate of severe disease symptoms and prevent death. Nevertheless, although we now have vaccines to help us curb the pandemic, it is still important to take sound sanitary precautions. Let’s stay vigilant in wearing masks, regularly washing our hands, and maintaining a safe social distance. It’s still the only way to rid ourselves of this pesky pandemic once and for all.

Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, aside from vigilant mask-wearing, hand-washing and communal area avoiding, staying healthy also plays an important role in reducing our risk of picking up the virus. Not least, what we eat can have a large impact on our overall health. So we’ve put together a list of recommended food options that packed with properties that can help strengthen your immune system and benefit your body as a whole to work into your daily diet.

Whether blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, cherries, strawberries, gooseberries, mulberries or any other edible berries, such fruits are sweetly tinged with a touch of sour that is always delicious. As nutritious as they are refreshing, berries are high in vitamin C, vitamin E, folic acid, calcium, selenium, β-carotene, and bioflavonoids (vitamin P). Taken altogether, they are rich in antioxidant properties. They can also help slow aging processes, nourish the skin, and improve vision. Plus they can reduce cholesterol and the risk of cancer. Berries are also considered highly beneficial to our cardiovascular systems and can help strengthen the body’s immunity. All very good for our health and wellbeing.

Fruits and vegetables that are orange and yellow

Think of the likes of pumpkin, carrot, ripe papaya, cantaloupe, pineapple, mango, watermelon, and leafy green vegetables. Such fruits and vegetables contain numerous types of antioxidants, including most notably, carotenoids, bioflavonoids, and vitamin C, all of which are associated with good cardiovascular health. They can also lower the chances of getting cancer. Moreover, the carotenoids convert into vitamin A which aids vision and strengthens the body’s immune system against opportunistic infections.

Including oats, barley, millet and black sesame, among many others, grains are low-fat, high-energy carbohydrates. Rich in nutritional properties, this food group contains plenty of antioxidants, phenolic acid, and vitamins B and E. Energy from grains can be used by the body immediately. Wholegrains are helpful in lowering the risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. They can also help with weight-control. There is also evidence to supports the perception that this particular food group can curb death levels from respiratory and infectious diseases. Grains also contain multiple minerals, including selenium, which act as antioxidants that boost immunity.

Fruits with a sour flavor such as lemons, grapes, grapefruits and various types of oranges, are special not only for their distinctive blend of sweet and sour but also for being highly nutritious and rich in vitamin C. These fruits can help boost our immune system functionality, from guarding against entry of pathogens, to aiding white blood cells in destroying harmful pathogens already inside, to producing antibodies. Meanwhile, multiple non-sour fruits and vegetables also pack high levels of vitamin C, including papaya, mango, apple, broccoli, kale, pepper, and others.

Ranging from nuts and seeds to bean products, legumes include soy milk, almond milk, pistachio milk, and walnut milk, all of which are high in protein. They also contain unsaturated fatty acids, considered ‘good’ fats, along with vitamin B and folate. Legumes are useful in reducing fat levels in the body and can benefit the cardiovascular system. Other minerals also found in legumes such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium, help with bone issues. Legumes are also an excellent alternative to cow’s milk for those lactose intolerant.

Besides eating nutritious foods and adapting our daily diets to strengthen our immunity, making small lifestyle changes can also have a significant positive influence on our overall health. Be sure to have a balance of all five food groups in your diet and drink sufficient water every day (about 1.5 liters). Avoid food options that are overly salty, or contain high levels of fat and sugar.

ไม่ว่าจะเป็นบลูเบอร์รี ราสป์เบอร์รี แครนเบอรี่ เชอรี่ สตรอว์เบอร์รี กูสเบอร์รี มัลเบอรี่ที่นอกจากจะรสชาติอร่อยแล้ว ยังมีรสหวานอมเปรี้ยวนิดๆ ทานแล้วสดชื่นเป็นที่สุด แถมยังมีวิตามินซี วิตามินอี โฟลิก แคลเซียม เซเลเนียม เบต้าแคโรทีนและไบโอฟลาโวนอยด์ (วิตามินพี) ซึ่งมีคุณสมบัติเป็นสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระ ช่วยชะลอวัย บำรุงผิวพรรณ ช่วยการมองเห็น ลดความเสี่ยงในการเกิดโรคมะเร็ง อีกทั้งยังช่วยลดระดับคอเลสเตอรอลในร่างกาย มีประโยชน์ต่อระบบการทำงานของหัวใจและหลอดเลือดและเสริมสร้างภูมิคุ้มกันร่างกายให้แข็งแรง

2.กลุ่มผักผลไม้สีส้ม สีเหลือง

ได้แก่ ฟักทอง แคร์รอต มะละกอสุก แคนตาลูป สัปปะรด มะม่วง แตงโม และผักใบเขียว ผักผลไม้เหล่านี้มีสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระหลายชนิดด้วยกัน ที่โดดเด่น ได้แก่ แคโรทีนอยด์ ไบโอฟลาโวนอยด์ วิตามินซี ซึ่งเกี่ยวข้องกับสุขภาพหัวใจและหลอดเลือด ลดโอกาสในการเกิดโรคมะเร็ง และสารแคโรทีนอยด์ในผักและผลไม้เหล่านี้ยังเปลี่ยนเป็นวิตามินเอ ซึ่งช่วยในการมองเห็น และส่งเสริมการทำงานของระบบภูมิคุ้มกันของร่างกายในการตอบสนองต่อการติดเชื้อต่าง ๆ

ได้แก่ ถั่วและเมล็ดพืชต่าง ๆ รวมไปถึงผลิตภัณฑ์จากถั่ว เช่น นมถั่วเหลือง นมอัลมอนด์ นมพิสตาชิโอ นมวอลนัท ล้วนแต่มีโปรตีนสูง อีกทั้งมีกรดไขมันไม่อิ่มตัวซึ่งเป็นไขมันชนิดดีเป็นส่วนประกอบ มีวิตามินบี โฟเลต พืชตระกูลถั่วมีประโยชน์ในการลดไขมัน เป็นผลดีต่อระบบหัวใจและหลอดเลือด อีกทั้งยังประกอบได้ด้วยแร่ธาตุอื่นๆ ได้แก่ แคลเซียม แมกนีเซียม โพแทสเซียม ซึ่งช่วยในเรื่องของกระดูกอีกด้วย คนที่แพ้แล็กโทสในนมวัวก็สามารถดื่มนมประเภทนี้ได้เช่นกัน

Getting Vaccinated: What to Do Before and After Your Covid-19 Vaccine

Getting a Covid-19 vaccine is definitely something a lot of us have on our minds at the moment. And there is a lot to consider, not least, which vaccine to go for, what is covered under our health insurance and should there be any side effects requiring treatment. As it’s so important to be well-informed, here are some things to be aware of when making your decisions and to help you prepare before your vaccination and be prepared for what may come after.

Should You See a Doctor Before Getting Vaccinated Against Covid-19?

Each person is different and getting a vaccine can alter our immune system and body functions accordingly. To prevent any severe post-vaccine symptoms, those with any of the following conditions should consult a doctor before actually getting vaccinated.

For safety’s sake, those with underlying medical conditions are recommended to get a Covid-19 vaccine to prevent any severe symptoms the virus may cause if one catches it. However, it is also important to consider the extent and type of such underlying health issues. As a sensible precaution, those with any underlying condition are well-advised to consult a doctor prior to getting vaccinated.

2. Those allergic to drugs, foods, or allergens

Those who are sensitive to allergens, or who have a family history of severe allergies, should consult with a doctor regarding any vaccination decisions. It is recommended that before getting vaccinated against Covid-19, you meet with your doctor and go over your options.

The Department of Disease Control recommends that those taking regular medications refrain from taking certain prescription drugs before getting their Covid-19 vaccination. Key drug groups that should be avoided include:

Prescription drugs for migraines, such as Cafergot, Avamigran and Tofago, should not be taken within five days before the vaccination date. Triptan drugs such as Replax should be stopped 24 hours before getting the vaccine.

Antidepressants, including SSRIs, SNRIs and Tricyclic antidepressants such as Fluxetin, Sertralin, Escitalopram, Venlafaxine, Duloxetine, Amitriptyline, Nortriptyline, and Imipramine, should not be taken within 24 hours prior to vaccination.

Nasal decongestants such as Pseudoephedrine should not be taken within 24 hours prior to vaccination.

Hemp oil, nicotine patches, or any supplements and herbs should be avoided for 3-5 days before vaccination.

NSAIDs including Ibuprofen, Arcoxia, and Celebrex should not be taken within 24 hours before vaccination.

To maximize effectiveness, while preventing or minimizing any potential side effects, it is important to be adequately prepared before getting a Covid-19 vaccination. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

Get sufficient rest. Those about to get vaccinated should get enough sleep beforehand, and ensure that their bodies are well-rested for at least two days before the vaccination date. It is also recommended to refrain from strenuous exercise during that time.

Avoid drinking any alcoholic beverages before the vaccination appointment.

Drink enough water to meet your physical needs (the recommended amount is 1.5 liters per day).

If you feel unwell or have a fever on the day of your vaccination, your vaccination date should be postponed for at least 1-2 weeks.

After the vaccine dose has been administered, the vaccination center will let recipients rest and wait for 15-30 minutes while they monitor for any signs of side effects. This is because severe allergic reactions, if any, tend to occur within an hour of vaccination. As some people may experience mild side effects post-vaccination, we have gathered some recommendations what to do after getting your vaccine shot.

Avoid any strenuous use of your vaccinated arm for at least two days after your shot.

You may experience mild side effects such as pain, swelling, redness, and heat around the injection area, or symptoms of fever, headache, fatigue, body ache, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. In such cases, it is recommended to drink plenty of water and to rest according to what your body tells you it needs. Such symptoms are signs that your body’s immune system is responding to the vaccine by speeding up building immunity against it. It is important to note that such symptoms can go away on their own within two to three days. However, if symptoms persist after three days, you are advised to consult a doctor.
